Glen Affric.
15/16th February 2015
Glen Affric is a place I have known about since I first became interested in photography.
I was quite young when I joined my first photographic society in Sutton Coldfield where I lived back then.
Most years we had a visit from a wonderful photographer called Jimmy Joyce and he always had beautiful images of Glen Affric which perhaps inspired me first of all to become interested in landscape photography.
I visited once before while shooting film but It’s taken me many years to return with a digital camera.
The flat lighting conditions that seemed to plague this trip did not improve that night and by morning we could hear the patter of rain on the van roof. My heart sank.
However, with that gentle rain came exactly the soft misty conditions that I recognised from many of Jimmy’s images so long ago.
Long exposures restored the reflective surface of the waters and the shifting colour of the light as the sun rose created a contantly changing panorama so different from the night before.
Sadly James Joyce FRPS FIPF APAGB passed away a few years ago but he was certainly there in my heart that morning.
