Pule Hill
23 August 2014
The forecast was clear skies and low wind for a few hours overnight.
Half of that was right at least.
I’d been waiting for the opportunity to try an astronomical mount that I’d bought for the camera for an age.
When the conditions were right I had other commitments and when I was free the conditions were never right. Such is life.
This is a spot near home that I hoped would be dark enough for a reasonable test.
The orange glow is Manchester over the horizon but at least I was out of direct line of sight.
In the end the wind was a bit too gusty to try any longer lensed shots but this 4 minute exposure with the 14mm worked reasonably well.
It takes an enormous amount of processing to get rid of the light pollution in this kind of shot but the alternative is a long drive to Scotland or Wales to even stand a chance of getting this kind of image. these days.
